During my experience as a CHEO Instructor Therapist, I’ve worked closely with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in one-on-one therapy sessions, focusing on crucial developmental goals. Witnessing their progress and growth has been immensely rewarding and has reinforced my passion for contributing to the well-being of individuals with ASD. I also worked on a program that offered hands-on experience working with families in their homes, implementing behaviour intervention plans and collaborating closely with parents. These experiences have equipped me with a comprehensive toolkit to address the diverse needs of individuals with ASD and aligns seamlessly with my academic foundation, giving me a well-rounded understanding of evidence-based practices and their real-world applications.

Joining the BA Psychology program at Carleton has been an incredible journey. Not only did the program teach me about human behaviour and relationships, it also helped me grow as a person. The community at Carleton is amazing. Everyone, from classmates to professors, is enthusiastically supportive and welcoming. Being an athlete, a volunteer in my community, and a husband, I was worried about balancing a higher education with my lifestyle. The staff understood my commitments and always had my back while pushing me for my absolute best. I could pursue my passion for psychology without sacrificing my commitments at home, in the community, or to my sport. If you're looking for a program that truly understands your life and supports your growth in every way, the BA program at Carleton is the perfect choice.

My primary motivation for pursuing Psychology at Carleton is my longstanding interest in promoting the mental and physical well-being of our Indigenous peoples, particularly the younger generation. Writing psychological research papers while studying sports psychology is another fascinating aspect of my degree. These two components enable me to acquire transferable abilities like critical thinking, problem solving, flexibility and teamwork that I can use both inside and outside of the classroom. I hope and aspire to work as a Cree psychologist in my community, and I am confident that Carleton will provide me with the resources I need.

As part of my studies, I explore ADHD and its impacts on the well-being of people affected by it. I’ve been privileged to conduct research through Rogers Child Mental Health Labs with Professor Maria Rogers, Canada Research Chair in Child and Youth Mental Health and Well-Being. My work in the lab focuses on understanding the impact of ADHD on children, aims to enhance their educational and psychosocial outcomes, and further ensures equity and representation of all children and youth who are affected by this lifelong neurological disability.

Through Carleton's Co-op program, I have worked in two different roles: one on campus at the Carleton Co-operative Education Office, and another at the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada. In these positions, I gained valuable experiences while having the opportunity to apply my academic knowledge in a professional environment and build a network of supportive mentors and colleagues. Having participated in the Co-op program, I have a greater sense of direction on the type of work I want to pursue after graduating from my program and feel confident that I possess the necessary skills to get there.
