Degree Information

Our compressed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Honours degree is completed by students full-time over fall, winter and summer semesters. The hybrid coursework occurs on campus, in small experiential learning labs and through clinical placements. Use of innovative extended reality — augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) — medical simulation and clinical placement experiences will provide you with strong theoretical knowledge and excellent practical application to support a practice-ready Registered Nurse.

Concentrations

  • Mental Health and Neuroscience: Study neuroscience as related to mental health nursing practice. You will be prepared to meet holistic patient care needs by understanding mental health is an integral component of overall patient care.
  • Nursing Data Science (Artificial Intelligence): Our first-of-its-kind concentration will prepare you to be on the forefront of technology and data science integrating Artificial Intelligence into your nursing practice. You'll learn to bridge the gap between technical skills and clinical expertise, using advanced knowledge to drive innovation in data science, artificial intelligence and healthcare.

Ontario Learn and Stay Grant

Ontario high school students entering Carleton University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program will be able to apply for Ontario’s Learn and Stay Grant (OLSG). Applicants with prior post-secondary studies should contact Carleton’s Awards and Financial Aid Office to discuss OLSG eligibility. The Ontario Learn and Stay Grant (OLSG) supports post-secondary students studying in high-priority programs at institutions located in under-served regions of the province. The grant provides eligible students with full, upfront funding for tuition, books, and other educational expenses. In exchange, students commit to work for a time after graduation in the region where they studied. For more information about the grant including eligibility requirements, please visit our Awards and Financial Aid website.

Additional Admission Requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing has an early application deadline and applicants are required to submit a supplementary application. Visit the Additional Admission Requirements page for more information. Additionally, there are essential requirements defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario that must be satisfied in order to participate in a Nursing program and in the Nursing profession.

Work-Integrated Learning

We have partnered with the Queensway Carleton Hospital on the conceptualization of this program and the curriculum design to ensure it reflects the current on-the-job challenges facing nurses today. Together we have designed clinical practicums to expand community-based, experiential learning and produce sustainable community engagement. Starting in your first semester, you will receive clinical experience, patient care and critical-thinking skills through clinical placements. Along with a highly innovative simulation model, you’ll train with other professional healthcare partners and the community to promote equitable and sustainable health outcomes.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

Carleton’s Nursing students will be trained to welcome, respect and integrate the patient’s beliefs, views and lived experiences while aiding in the patient’s healing. You’ll graduate with a strong background in Indigenous history, culture and ways of healing. Our program was developed in partnership with Indigenous communities, consultants and community members. Nurses as healthcare providers are also supported to understand the Social Determinants of Health including equity, justice and ethics.

Indigenous Students Interested in Nursing

There are 10 seats in this program that are reserved for Indigenous (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) students. Proof of indigenous identity is required. Indigenous students interested in Nursing, from all educational backgrounds, are strongly encouraged to email admissions@carleton.ca for further information.

Indigenous students are encouraged to remain connected with their communities through clinical placements and hybrid programming offerings when possible. Our program includes courses on traditional healing methods, the history and impact of colonization on Indigenous health, and strategies to provide culturally sensitive care to improve health outcomes by better integrating Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into healthcare education.
