Carleton University admission package

Below is a brief overview of some of the documents that may be contained in the offer of admission package. You’re one step closer to achieving your goal of attending a post-secondary institution. You may be wondering what’s next? Plan your next steps with the information below.

1. Offer of admission letter

This is the official letter of admission and indicates:

  • the program to which you are admitted;
  • the type of offer (conditional, provisional, etc.);
  • the specific conditions on your offer of admission; and
  • information on the status of your other application choices (if applicable).

2. Scholarship letter (if eligible)

If you have been admitted to Carleton with a scholarship, a letter will be included with your offer. The letter will outline the details of the award and provide you with information on how the scholarship is paid. For more details on your scholarship, including important details on renewing your scholarship, please visit the Awards and Financial Aid website.

3. Guaranteed residence letter (if applicable)

If you received a first-year guaranteed Offer of Residence and would like to reserve your place, you must follow the steps on the Housing and Residence Life Services website to confirm your Offer of Residence and pay the Residence Advance Payment on Carleton Central by June 9, 2025.

If you did not receive a guaranteed residence offer with your admission to Carleton, please visit the Housing and Residence Life Services website for more information on how to apply for residence accommodation.

Every year, more than 3,600 students choose to live in residence at Carleton. Living on campus is more than just a bed and a meal plan; it’s a lifestyle that promotes learning outside of the classroom, personal growth, community support and engagement, and leadership development.

Note: Spaces in residence are limited.

4. Admission audit (if applicable)

An admission audit may be enclosed with an offer of admission. The audit shows the courses required for your degree and, if applicable, the credits granted from your previous studies and how those credits have been applied toward the degree requirements. The audit may also include important comments and instructions. The most up-to-date version of your audit is available on Carleton Central. For a detailed guide on how to read your audit, please go to the Academic Advising website.

5. Other things to consider (if applicable)

  • Eligible programs
    Your offer of admission will include information on the status of your other program choices (if applicable). If you are eligible for another choice, and if there is space available in that program, you can be given an offer of admission. If a program becomes full, you will not receive an offer of admission, even if you were previously eligible.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) Requirement
    Students with a language test score in the mid-range listed in the ESL admissions chart may have an offer of admission that includes an English language requirement. Students admitted with an English language requirement will begin studies in their degree program, with the requirement that they complete designated ESL courses in their first terms of study. Successful completion of the appropriate ESL credits will fulfil the English language requirement. If you have been admitted with an ESL requirement, you should check your offer package in Carleton 360 to view the level of your ESL placement.
  • Student Information for a Study Permit
    International students who require a study permit (see who is exempt) will also be issued a page that includes information required for their study permit application. See the Additional Information for International Students tab for more details.
