Keynote – Featuring:

  • Dr. Kim Hellemans – Associate Dean of Science (Student Recruitment, Wellness and Success), Faculty of Science
    Dr. Hellemans received her PhD from Queen’s University, where her research focused on understanding the biological basis of drug addiction. She later went on to complete post-doctoral positions at Cambridge University and the University of British Columbia prior to joining Carleton University in 2008. Dr. Hellemans has received several prestigious awards for her passion and dedication to university teaching. Outside of the classroom, she’s the co-host of the popular podcast, Minding the Brain.
  • Dr. Adrian Chan – Professor, Systems and Computer Engineering; Director, Research and Education in Accessibility, Design and Innovation (READi), 3M Teaching Fellow
    Adrian D. C. Chan was born in Montreal, QC and raised in Waterloo, ON. Dr. Chan is a biomedical engineering researcher with expertise in biomedical signal processing, biomedical image processing, non-invasive sensor systems, assistive devices and accessibility. He has served in various leadership positions at Carleton University and has over 100 refereed publications and has been recognized with a number of honours including CMBES’ Outstanding Biomedical Engineer of the Year and the 3M National Teaching Fellowship. He is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Senior Member of the IEEE, member of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, member of the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society, member of the Biomedical Engineering Society, and 3M Teaching Fellow.
