Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business hosts several business and math-focused workshops (on campus and in high school classrooms).

Sprott Workshop: On campus

Sprott offers a customized workshop in collaboration with Carleton’s Technology Innovation Management (TIM) master’s program.

  • Description: Ever pondered how ground-breaking companies like Apple and SpaceX stay ahead of the curve? It’s innovation! In our upcoming session, we’re delving into the world of entrepreneurial thinking – a mindset that transforms challenges into opportunities. Explore the realms of failure, personal passions and creative problem-solving to spark your own entrepreneurial mindset. Plus, we’re teaming up with generative AI, specifically ChatGPT, to accelerate the innovation process.

Sample schedule for your students:

9:00 a.m. (ET) – Arrive on campus; bus can drop group at the Nicol Building

9:15 a.m. (ET) – Workshop

11:15 a.m. (ET) – Q&A with Sprott students (optional)

12:00 p.m. (ET) – Complimentary lunch in the residence dining hall

1:00 p.m. (ET) – General Campus Tour (leaving from the residence dining hall)

2:00 p.m. (ET)- Depart campus from the Nicol Building

Customized modules for high school classes

  • Rebecca Renfroe, Sprott School of Business Associate Dean (Student Success and Recruitment) and Accounting Instructor, offers customized modules for high school classes to help students make connections between mathematical concepts/procedures and real-world business scenarios. These modules would be particularly beneficial for high school classes such as Grade 11 Functions (MCR3U) and Financial Accounting Fundamentals (BAF3M).

Introduction to Case Coaching

  • In this one-period interactive workshop, current Sprott students will introduce high school students to the world of “case cracking”. Our Sprott students will guide high school students through the step-by-step case cracking process. Students will work in groups to come up with solutions to real-world business problems and pitch these ideas to their classmates.
