Individuals who are currently attending or have graduated from a Canadian high school outside Ontario (and have not attended a post-secondary institution) and would like to begin studies at Carleton.


Check application deadlines and requirements

Admission requirements vary by program. Please refer to the detailed admissions requirements for your specific degree program and educational background.

The general application deadline for Fall admission (September 2017 entry) is June 1, 2017.

Some programs have earlier application deadlines and may also require portfolios or additional documents. Find out more about the programs with additional admission requirements.


The deadline to apply for Winter admission (January 2017 entry) is October 15, 2016. Only a limited number of programs permit entry in the winter term. Please see the January Admissions webpage for program availability.


Apply on-line and track application

Apply on-line at the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) website.

  • Base Application Fee charged by the OUAC: $156
  • Admission Processing Fee charged by the OUAC on behalf of Carleton University: $63.75
  • Fee for each university/program choice beyond the initial base three university choices: $50

Within 5 days of submitting your application, you will receive an email confirming that we received your application. This email will contain your Carleton applicant number and also provide you with important details on how to check the status of your application. You will also receive this information as part of an acknowledgement package that will be mailed to you.

Your acknowledgement email contains your Carleton applicant number. With your applicant number you can access Carleton Central and check the status of your application at any time. If we are missing documents or need more information to process your application we will post this information on Carleton Central. Be sure to check your application frequently and contact us with any questions you may have.


Send in additional documentation before deadlines

If you’re applying to a program with specific application requirements you’ll also be required to provide additional documentation to support your application.

If you are sending paper documents it may take up to 7 – 10 days for the document to appear on Carleton Central from the time it is received by the University. Please do not send duplicate documents until you have confirmed with Admissions Services that additional copies are required.

If your first language is not English you will be asked to prove your language proficiency.


Receive admission decision

You will view your offer package in Carleton Central by clicking on the View Offer Details link on the Application Summary page. Important information about your degree program, scholarship offer (if applicable), financial assistance, residence and more is included with your offer. Any conditions associated with your offer will appear in your offer letter – please review them carefully and contact us if you have any questions.

Carleton University will begin to make Offers of Admission on Grade 12 interim or a combination of Grade 12 interim and final grades in January/February. Do not be concerned if you do not receive an early Offer of Admission. Offers will continue to be made until mid-June. After that date, offers will be made using Grade 12 final marks or a combination of final marks and final summer course marks. If you receive a conditional Offer of Admission, your application will be reassessed once we receive your final grades to ensure that you still meet the requirements for your program. If you no longer meet the required averages, Carleton will change or withdraw your Offer of Admission.


Accept your Offer of Admission and residence

If you receive an Offer of Admission and wish to accept, you must do so by the date indicated on your offer letter in order to reserve your space in the program. To accept your Offer of Admission, go to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre website.

If you are admitted to first-year studies directly from high school or CEGEP on or before May 15, 2017 you will be offered a place in residence. Students receiving a residence offer must make their deposit to the Housing Office by 4:30 p.m. (EST) June 8, 2017 or they will lose their guaranteed space in residence. If you do not receive a residence offer, you may apply by submitting a residence application to be included in the lottery for remaining spaces to be held on June 13, 2017. It’s important to remember that most Offers of Admission are conditional Offers of Admission. Make sure to review the information on how to maintain your conditional Offer of Admission.

Once you accept your Offer of Admission, the next thing to do is plan your registration.
