Program Summary

Media and communications are essential to organizations, workplaces and social movements today. The Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies (B.CoMS) features an academic curriculum focused on pressing social issues. Students also develop transferable knowledge and skills to launch their careers in communications and other fields through experiential learning, community-engaged courses and hands-on media practice workshops.

In Communication and Media Studies you will choose from courses that cover the past, present and future of media; the uses and abuses of technology; the economics, politics and regulation of communication; and much more.

In fourth year, students receive instruction in hands-on media practice workshops, exploring topics in social media analytics; professional writing and public speaking; and event management and community partnerships.

Studying in Ottawa provides you with access to government policy-makers, public and private agencies, non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions and world-class research facilities.

Experiential learning is a crucial part of the Communication and Media Studies program. You will have the opportunity to learn inside the classroom and in community locations, such as the Carleton University Art Gallery.
