I started as an international  transfer student three years ago. I can say that so many things have changed and so many opportunities of growth have been presented in my life since that first day of university.

Carleton has allowed me to open my eyes to new and exciting challenges.

First, I added a minor in Business, which many would think is odd as I am studying Biology but it has helped me so much in my Biology degree and my career opportunities.

Co-op

Then, I added my Co-op option, where I discovered so many different paths that I could take once I finish my studies. I have worked in three different government departments throughout my co-op. In each one of them I have met incredible people that have mentored me and have taught me so much.

In each of the jobs I also developed different skills that will help in my future studies/jobs. At Carleton, you will find that the opportunities you can get are endless and most importantly you are within a community that supports you and wants to help you fulfill all your dreams.

“Science has always been my passion. Biology is all about answering the ‘impossible’ questions of life and applying the newly acquired knowledge into making a better world. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Being a woman in STEM has its challenges sometimes, but it is also empowering and exciting. I do believe our society is going on the right track about empowering and supporting women in Science. We should all take part in making it better and closing the gender gap. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I feel lucky to say that I am surrounded by intelligent, inspirational, strong and fearless women that have supported me since day one in my journey in Biology at Carleton. They have taught me to be and believe in myself, to be kind and supportive with my community and to never give up on my dreams. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To all female students thinking of going into Science, I would tell them: Follow your dreams, come to Science (Science is really cool), we all welcome you and we need your skills to make the world a better place!” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ – Sarita C.S.
