Why did you choose your academic program and what are the advantages or best features of studying your program at Carleton University, in Ottawa?
I chose to study Health Sciences with a concentration in Biomedical Sciences at Carleton because I hope to further my education and potentially go to medical school after completing my undergraduate degree. The first step to accomplishing this goal is to become more familiar with the concepts of Biomedical Science. The Health Sciences program is very close knit and the help and support that I receive from my professors, teaching assistants and fellow students makes being in my program that much more enjoyable. The small class sizes and support I received in my first year at Carleton definitely helped me to succeed and has made me very excited to see what second year has in store!
What is it like to balance student life and athletics at Carleton University?
For the most part, I was able to successfully balance school and sports while in high school. However, stepping into the varsity world at Carleton was definitely a new and rewarding challenge. Time is very precious when trying to balance school and sports, however, I’m grateful for the opportunities that I have been presented with as a student-athlete. I find the workload at university to be quite manageable; and with the help of Carleton’s many academic support services, I am able to fully understand course material and feel well-prepared for my exams.
What is it like to be a member of the Carleton community?
Having grown up in a small town in Nova Scotia, I came to Carleton and Ottawa for a fresh start and a new adventure. The community at Carleton is one-of-a-kind. As soon as you arrive on campus, you’re always welcomed by friendly faces. All of Carleton’s student-athletes have one common goal, and that is to succeed in school and sports. The warm welcome I received from the Raven’s community made my transition to university that much easier. Now starting my second year, I’m looking forward to the great year that the Ravens have ahead!
What is most notable about your experience as a Raven?
I chose to play for the Ravens because Carleton Athletics has an outstanding reputation all across Canada and around the world. I always dreamed of spending my university career in a different part of Canada; and I’m extremely happy with the choice I made to make Ottawa my home for the next few years. The soccer program at Carleton is one-of-a-kind because of the amazing coaching staff and extremely talented players. The best part of being a Raven is knowing that I always have a home away from home. I’ve made friends here that will last a life time and I’m very proud to say that I play for the Ravens and go to school at Carleton.
