Hey all,

How’s it going? First of all, Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas break and you’re ready to return for the second half of the school year. I am entering the second semester of my third year in the Industrial Design program at Carleton. I’m very excited for all the new things we will be learning and the projects we will be working on this semester.

What is a new year without a recap of the old one? Over the break, I threw together a video for you all! This video outlines the conceptualization and design steps of our first semester studio project. Our professor referred to this project as the “gateway project” because it was the first time we designed a product through all stages of its development – from background research to design, concept sketches, rough prototypes, user testing, final renderings and appearance models. Up to this point, the projects we have worked on were much shorter in duration and were intended to build and strengthen our design skills.

Instead of talking about my design, I decided I’d show it to you in a video slideshow format. This video depicts my design process from start to finish. For your viewing pleasure, however, I have compressed the many, many hours of design work into about three minutes of video footage.
