Tis’ the Season!
Hey everyone,
I, like my fellow blogger Amisha, apologize for my apparent inability to blog about my semester. The first semester of my final year was a lot busier than I had expected it to be!
I am still struggling to wrap my mind around the fact that we are now half-way through December. The only thing that stands between myself and a well deserved holiday (in my humble opinion) is one final exam. Of course, it was scheduled on the very last day of exams. That being said, I’ve been given the opportunity to make use of my time through studying, working, relaxing and just simply enjoying my time in Ottawa. I’ve also used the timeĀ to finish work on an Independent Study (which is offered as a fourth year level course for Human Rights majors). I was essentially in charge of my own research throughout the semester, culminating in a 25-page paper. For those of you who might be wondering, I was investigating the Holocaust; specifically Nazi policy surrounding homosexual men, including how these policies were established. It was quite the experience!
In terms of other updates, I have also started my applications for graduate school! I’ll be applying to a number of different programs at schools in Canada and the United States, including Carleton! It would be absolutely amazing to return to Carleton as a graduate student. After four years here, I have definitely found my bearings both on campus and in the greater Ottawa community.
I, like Madison (another fellow blogger), was also invited to attend the H.M. Tory Society Holiday Social a few weeks ago. It was a fantastic experience to be able to interact with many of the donors who regularly contribute to the University. It is with their support that many students, like myself, are able to attend Carleton. As a student who relies heavily on student loans, scholarships and bursaries, I can personally attest to how much of a difference their contributions have made in my life. I am sure the same can be said for countless other students.
I hope that all of you have a fantastic holiday season. Take the time to relax, enjoy the company of friends and family, and help make a difference in the lives of others. It’s truly what the holidays are all about.
See you in 2012!
