My First Blog!

Hey everyone!

I am very excited because this is my first blog post! I chose to become a blogger for Carleton University because I love to get involved in extra-curricular activities and blogging was something I knew would interest me. I also believe that I have experiences that I can share with prospective students that will help them in making decisions about university.

I would like to start out by introducing myself! My name is Sonya. I was born in Ottawa and have lived here all of my life. Some of the things I enjoy include singing and dancing. I started to sing and dance when I was very little and have continued with both through performing at different functions (even Parliament Hill). I also love to travel to different places around the world! Some of the places that I have been include India, Cuba, the Caribbean, California, Florida, Spain, Italy and France. Some of the places that I would love to go are Hawaii, Australia and Dubai. I love travelling because you get to see different parts of the world, meet new people and experience diverse cultures! I would love to participate in the student exchange program at Carleton because it would allow me to travel and see other parts of the world as well as take courses which would count towards my degree. It is a win-win situation!

Currently at Carleton, I am in the Sprott School of Business in my second year working towards completing a Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in Marketing with the Co-op option. I chose Marketing because it is a more creative side of business and I feel that not only would I enjoy working in this field, but I would also excel in it. Here is a little tip for university: when choosing a program of study, make sure that it is something you are passionate about! This way you will be happy with what you are doing and will be more inclined to stick with it!

Another thing about me is that I like to try and maintain a balance between school and extracurricular activities. This year I am involved in the CU South Asian Alliance Dance team as the spirit coordinator! My role is to organize a team of students to go to Toronto to represent and cheer for Carleton’s Dance Team (who competes against 15 other universities!). It is a really fun event that celebrates dance as well as the South Asian culture. I also try to attend as many events as I can that are hosted by the Sprott Student Business Society (SBSS) such as Business Banquet and the End of Year Gala!

Well this was just a short summary of me. Keep watching for new blog posts on tips for university. Thanks for reading!
