Dealing with Exam Stress

Hey Everyone!

I cannot believe that it is April already! Not only does it mean nice spring weather, but also exam time! Now, exam time can be very stressful for some students. I definitely get stressed out sometimes. For most students, it means that it’s crunch time. So I thought I would write about some tips that I use to try and make exam time easier for me:

  1. Stay organized: I try to organize and prioritize my work based on what exam comes first.
  2. Study in a quiet place: I try to choose a place where I can really concentrate and where distractions and interruptions are minimal. I either choose to study at home or in Carleton’s library.
  3. Start early: It is helpful if you keep up with your readings during the school year because when exam time rolls around, studying the course material will be more of a review. However, this is easier said than done. That is why you have to try your best to keep up with your readings and study smart!
  4. Study in a group: Although exam time can be stressful, to try and make it more fun, get together in a study group. That way it will be easier to get through the long hours of studying and you can also learn from each other. It is also an interactive way of learning where you can test each other on the class material.
  5. Take breaks: It is also important that you don’t spend all your time studying. I try to take regular breaks so that studying is not so overwhelming.

There are only a couple more weeks of exams to go before  summer vacation! It will be nice to have a couple weeks off before I start working in the summer. That is one thing I love about university in general, the fact that the school year ends in April and you have four months of summer vacation (unless you take summer courses). Well I should get back to studying now!
